Mattress Cleaning in Glasgow Explained
You spend a third of your life on your mattress, and it gets cleaned far less often than the sheets on top of it. Sweat, spills, accidents and everyday dust soak into it over the years. It starts to look yellow and smell stale long before it is worn out.
A professional clean will not make an old mattress new, but it can lift a lot of staining and freshen it up. Here is how it works and what to expect.
What a mattress clean involves
We clean mattresses the same careful way we clean sofas.
- We check the mattress and its label first, and try the cleaning solution on a small hidden area.
- We vacuum it to lift dust and dry debris from the surface and the seams.
- Stains get their own treatment before the main clean.
- A gentle, pet and child safe solution goes on to loosen the dirt and is worked into the fabric.
- A rinse takes the dirt and the solution back out, and we freshen the fabric as we go.
- We help it dry with fans or fresh air.

Which stains come out
Most stains can be lifted or improved a lot. Very old stains sometimes change the colour of the fabric itself, and those may fade rather than disappear. We will tell you honestly before we start if we think a stain will not fully come out.
Not every mattress should get wet
Some mattresses do not suit a wet clean, and memory foam is the most common one. Check the label first. If you are not sure, send us a photo of the mattress and its label on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether it can be cleaned.
How long does it take to dry?
A mattress needs to be fully dry before you make the bed again. Like a sofa, it is usually dry within a few hours, depending on the mattress, the weather and how well the room is aired. A morning booking gives it the whole day to dry before bedtime, and an open window or a fan helps.
What a clean cannot do
Cleaning lifts stains and freshens the fabric. It will not fix sagging, lumps, broken springs or a mattress that is simply worn out. If yours is uncomfortable as well as stained, a new one may be the better spend.
Keeping a mattress fresh
- Use a washable mattress protector and wash it with your bedding.
- Strip the bed now and then and let the mattress air for a few hours.
- Turn or rotate it if the maker says to.
- Deal with spills and accidents straight away. Blot, do not rub, and do not soak it.
