Sofa and Leather Cleaning at Home: What to Expect
Sofas take a lot. Meals, drinks, pets, children and everyday life all leave their mark, and a big sofa cannot easily go anywhere to be cleaned. So we bring the clean to you. Here is what happens when we clean a sofa or leather suite in your home.
Before we arrive
- Clear the cushions of throws, toys and anything that has slipped down the sides.
- Move small items and anything fragile from around the sofa. We are happy to help with light furniture on the day.
- Tell us about any stains you are worried about, and what caused them if you know.
- If the sofa still has its label, have it handy. It tells us what the fabric is made of.
How a fabric sofa is cleaned
- Look first. We check the fabric, then test a small hidden area so we know how it will react.
- Vacuum. Crumbs, dust and pet hair come out first, from the seams and under the cushions too.
- Treat the stains. Stubborn marks get their own treatment before the main clean.
- Pre clean. A gentle, pet and child safe solution suited to your fabric goes on to loosen the dirt.
- Work it in. Soft brushes or a mitt work it into the fabric without roughing it up.
- Rinse and lift out. A rinse takes the dirt and solution away, and we freshen the fabric as we go.
- Groom and dry. We set the fabric back to its proper texture and help it dry faster with fans or fresh air.

How a leather suite is cleaned
Leather gets a gentler clean. We lift the dirt and body oils, then condition it so it stays soft and is less likely to dry out and crack. See a real before and after of a leather sofa.
Fabrics that need extra care
Most fabrics can be cleaned. A few are marked dry clean only or react badly to water, such as some velvets, silks and viscose. If a fabric is not safe to clean, we will tell you before we start.
How long does it take to dry?
A fabric sofa is usually dry within a few hours, depending on the fabric, the weather and how well the room is aired. Opening a window or running a fan helps. Keep pets off the sofa until it is dry.
What about repairs?
We clean sofas and leather, we do not repair them. If a frame is broken, a seam has split or the leather is torn, a furniture repairer is the right person to call.
